5 gallon crock with the oval upside down

Question:

I purchased a 5 gallon crock with the oval upside down and wondering about its value.

Thanks

Dennis

Answer:

Dennis, the upside down oval will add a little value to your 5 gallon Red Wing crock, but not as much as one would think.  Value as I see it.  $150 to $175.  Al Kohlman

Minnesota Stoneware Company salt glazed dome top jug

Question:

Hello my name is Keith. I found this jug while digging a new foundation for a house. The house that I tore down was around a 100 years old, it was on Manitou Island on White Bear Lake,  Minnesota. I found it along with a bunch of other really cool glass bottles. It says Minnesota Stoneware on the bottom but I can’t make out what the rest of it says. I was wondering what I truly have here and the worth of it?

Thank you for your time,

Keith

Answer:

Keith, you have a Minnesota Stoneware Company salt glazed dome top jug.  With the staining on the side, but bottom stamped (this is a plus), the value is around $75.   Al Kohlman

ed Wing Stoneware 1/2 gallon zinc glazed stoneware jug, bottom marked

Question:

My question is simply trying to figure out the value of my 1/2 gallon Red Wing jug that has RSCA etched on the bottom, rather than stamped.

I wondered if that meant it was older?

I’m trying to sell this, and don’t see any similar ones with which to base my price.

Many thanks,

Jill

Answer:

Jillian, your Red Wing Stoneware 1/2 gallon zinc glazed stoneware jug that is bottom stamped RWSCo has a value between $40 & $45 if in perfect condition.   Al Kohlman

5 gallon Red Wing shoulder jug, back stamped

Question:

Good evening from out west, Carmichael, CA.

We recently acquired another piece of cherished Red Wing stoneware, a five gallon jug.

What we’ve discovered is that it’s a bit  unusual in that the stamp that shows place of origin is not on the front of the jug. It’s up high on the back.

Is that a norm that we’ve just never seen before, a mistake or perhaps just a specific date of manufacture?

If you could shed a bit of light on the subject it would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you so very much for your attention.

Regards

Jim

Answer:

Jim, my best guess is that your Red Wing 5 gallon shoulder jug was produced for advertising (as there is one which was produced in somewhat of a large quantity).  With this jug, Red Wing put the advertising under the red wing and stamped the oval on the rear of the jug much like the one you have pictured here.   This could have been the case were they reached their order quantity and therefore send this jug out in the way you see it now.  This is the only thing that makes sense to me.  Al Kohlman
