Prevelance of Red Wing

Question:
I LIVE IN SOUTHERN OHIO AND COLLECT RED WING, I WANT TO KNOW BACK IN THE DAY WHEN PEOPLE USED POTTERY/CROCKS TO ACTUALLY USE FOR EVERDAY THINGS, WERE RED WINGS A HIGH END BRAND? I MEAN YOU CAN FIND MILLIONS OF OTHER KINDS OF CROCKS (WITH NO MARKINGS OR JUST A GALLON NUMBER, THE KIND MY GRANDMOTHER USED FOR SAUERKRAUT) THAT ARE PLEANTIFUL TO COME BY BUT RED WING IS NOT AS EASY TO FIND LIKE THOSE. WHY IS THAT???? ALSO I CANNOT FIND THE RED WING CROCKS IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS HARDLY AT ALL, WERE THEY MORE PREVALENT IN AREAS CLOSER TO MINNESOTA? I HAVE A HUGE COLLECTION BUT THEY ARE MAINLY FROM OTHER STATES FAR FROM OHIO. I DON’T EVER HEAR ABOUT OTHER COLLECTORS IN MY AREA AT ALL! I WAS JUST WONDERING IF YOU WOULD HAPPEN TO KNOW WHY THEY ARE SO SCARCE HERE? Tami

question from: npark69@sio.midco.net

Question:
Hi, I am attaching a picture of the bottom of a smaller Prismatique bowl numbered 791. The reason I am sending this to you is that there are unusual hand engraved numbers/letters along with the normal raised RW maker’s mark. I’m wondering if this is a glaze formula or something else. It is on two lines
top line – L i l (or L i 1)
2nd line – 76 (or T6) very sure it is 76
As I can only upload 1 pic, I will obviously send the one of the bottom but I do have other pics to send if you want to see them.
I’m just wondering if you could give me any information on the hand engraved "formula", does that make this more unique? etc… also, of course I would love to find out some guess as to what it may be worth.
Thanks so much for any information you can give me.
Nancy Parker

Prismatique Bowl #791, marked wih L on bottom

Question:
Hi, I just found a Prismatique bowl with the raised makers mark numbered 791. The unusual aspect of this piece is the hand engraved letters and numbers above the RW M/M. I will attach pictures but they didn’t come out the very best but it should give you an idea of what I’m talking about. I believe this could be an engraved glaze formula??? possibly?? It is UNDER the glaze. The engraving says – top line – Lil (or Li1) under that is the number- 76 The black stuff on it came off with no problem but there are two chips in the piece. Any information on the engraved stuff or a estimate on value would be great. Thanks so much. Nancy I do have more pictures to send if you would like to see them. The piece is solid white.. not colorful at all like other pieces I’ve seen when I looked this up tonight.

Answer: it is a bit odd, I haven’t seen that type of mark before, and an all white color is unusual. it probably is a hobby shop piece, with the name and date, altho I haven’t seen a piece of prismatique done in a hobby shop. most glaze tests were done in ink, not engraved. Value around 40.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
