5 gallon Red Wing, Oiterie Inc, Red Wing, Minn brown to jug

Question:
I found this ceramic jug in the back yard of a house I recently moved into. It’s about 18-20 inches from the floor to the spout and about 10 inches in diameter (I didn’t take exact measurements). It has a dark ceramic glaze on the top. There are no visible chips or cracks. It is stamped with a number "5" on it and another oval stamp that says "Red Wine, Oiterie Inc, Red Wing, Minn" It’s hard to read the company name on the stamp so I could be wrong on the spelling. Attached are pictures. I’d appreciate any input you have. Thank You! Marian

Ash Receiver/Bud vases colors

Question:
Hi Steve & Rose, I read through all 1300 questions to make sure this question hasn’t been asked before….What color glazes do the ash receivers/bud vases appear? I have white/cream, blue, yellow, and green. I’ve also seen red and saw that one of your readers had a pink one. Is that it – six colors in all? Thanks for your forum! I really appreciate that you take the time to do this. You’ve helped me out in the past and I always value your opinion! Denise

Answer: Hi Denise

you’ve been busy! I do know they were done in copper, besides the colors you mentioned. I’m not sure, this was when they were still using some Rumrill glaze colors, and making some new ones as well. there are 8 glazes listed in 1940, but a whole lot more than that in 1938, and in 1941. I would guess there are a few other colors out there. good question, hope this helps, thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing M 1497, Charles Murphy designer

Question:
I just purchased a lovely Red Wing vase at a yard sale for $3. It is solid black, 3-footed, 10" tall, with a 4 1/4" diameter opening at the top. It has a slightly larger diameter of its lower half. I’m a garden clubber, and buy vases everywhere I go, and love this vase’s lines. It is clearly marked "RED WING USA M-1497" on the bottom. I can’t provide a photo today, but will do so when I get home, if you need it. Thank you for any info you can provide about my new vase! It’s really lovely! Elizabeth

Answer: Elizabeth

It’s a design by Charles Murphy, from 1955. There are several other forms with this group that have the same type style. Value is around 35.00 or so. nice find! thanks, steve n rose

Hi Al, I am sending you a photo of the script on my #3 Minnesota stoneware oval crock, That you answered about yesterday.(blue stamping) I paid 95.00 for it and am very happy with your response! I know everybody scrawls on things occasionally at work, but have you ever seen this before? Must be production counts or something? I would think it would add to the interest. I hope it shows up at your end. Thanks very much…Craig
