Question:
We bought this piece at an estate sale. It is marked "Red Wing USA" on the bottom and has the letter "K" or "R" and the number "71" faintly handwritten in the pottery on the bottom. It is 8-1/2" in diameter and 4" high. We have been told it is possibly a prototype or test piece for a Canister in the CeramaStone pattern, but with no lid. Evidently CeramaStone did not come in white, just colors.

Red Wing M 1440
Question:
Hello. I requested information on a Murphy Red Wing vase last week, but nothing has been posted on this site yet…so maybe I did it wrong (?). Again, the bottom is marked: Red Wing USA M-1440. It is chartreuse on the outside lined with grey on the inside. I would like to know the year it was made, how much it originally sold for, and what it would be worth now in good condition. Sorry, I do not have a picture. Thanks.
sorry for the late reply, see previous post. thanks, steve n rose
Pineapple Marmalade Jar
Question:
I HAVE COME ACROSS AN ITEM THAT IS MARKED RED WING USA ON THE BOTTOM. IT IS A YELLOW PINEAPPLE SITTING ON A LEAF. THE TOP OF THE PINEAPPLE IS REMOVABLE. IT LOOKS TO BE CERAMIC. APPROXAMATELY 4 INCHES TALL AND 5 INCHES FOR THE BASE. IT DOES HAVE A SMALL CHIP IN THE LEAF. THAT IS THE ONLY DAMAGE NOTED. I BELIEVE IT COULD BE A CANDY OR NUT DISH. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS AND TO RESPOND. THANK YOU MITZI LAYMON.
Answer: Hi Mitzi, this is a marmalade jar, part of the hostessware group, (dinnerware) it dates from around 1940, and has a value of about 35.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
Steve n rose’s answer is correct. Red Wing introduced the Hostessware group in 1940 to accompany their Gypsy Trail dinnerware line. Hostessware included a variety of pineapple, pear and apple-shaped items — cookie jars, small and large salad bowls, berry bowls, covered casseroles, covered marmites, covered marmalade jars with attached stand, and covered marmalade jars without a stand or with a detached stand. Red Wing catalogs list the available colors as blue, yellow, orange, turquoise, pink and green.
