Red Wing Salt Glaze

Question:
Yes, just wondering when looking at a RW salt glazed crock, regardless of size, the name for the tear-drop marks apart from the target design. I believe I have heard them refered as tobacco marks. I have seen these on the blue target crocks.

3 Gallon Salt Glaze Churn and 3 Gallon Bee Hive

Question:
Gosh… I don’t know where to start. I am an Indiana resident. My Red Wing passion began a few years ago and I have several red stamped wing crocks (even a 30 gallon). Now, however, a am interested in the making & history of Bee Sting salt glazed crocks. I have several books about Red Wing stoneware and one on Indiana potteries. So here are my questions: 1. In the attached pictures, which crocks are Red Wing? Some that I THOUGHT were Red Wing are actually depicted in a book called Indiana Stoneware by Peggy Loar 1974. 2. How can I value my whole collection for insurance purposes? 3. Where can I find more information about mid-west potteries from 1800-1900. I know the basic history behind the Western Stoneware and the Red Wing unions but I want more specific information. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Red Wing Vase #762

Question:
Hello, I have a vase marked Red Wing 762 on bottom. It is about 11 inches tall. The vase has several defects that appear to be factory flaws. My question’s are, might this piece be one after the Rum Rill when Red Wing was trying there own glazes? Would you know an approximate value? Are defects a problem in piece?

Answer: the 762 is a shape redone in 1961, kind of an urn shape with handles. This shape was done in several different glazes. Yours maybe done in Bronze crackle, it did some unusual glaze marks. Value is around 35.00 or so, defects or not. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing Vase 674

Question:
I have a 10" (approx.)vase that I cannot find in any of the collector’s books I’ve looked in. It is marked: Red Wing, USA, 674. It has a tan and green glaze (not as dark and rich as Frankoma, but somewhat similar colors). It may be the "Nokomis" finish. The mold # may have been used in 1937 for RumRill. It looks like it could have been used in the Chromoline Handpainted series. It also is shaped similar to the 1955 SGraffito – M4005 10 1/8" vase. I can send you a picture if you give me an address to send it to. (Sorry, I do not know how to upload…, but I can send as an email.) Thanks for any info you can give me on it: age, value, etc.

Answer: Think you have a vase from the 1961 Stereoline, they were some funky glazes. It is probably Bronze/Green in glaze color. Value is around 40.00 or so. Hope this helps you. thanks, steve n rose
