6 gallon butterfly salt glaze churn
Question:
Hi – I recently acquired a 6 gallon Signed Red Wing Butterfly Churn which does have several cracks. According to the 2002 Red Wing Stoneware ID and Value Guide by DePasquale, Peck and Peterson, on p. 55, they show a picture of "the only signed butterfly churn know". I’d like to know if any others have been found or if mine is the second known one. Also, I’d like to know an approximate value for my churn in this condition. Other than the cracks, the handles are in good condition and there is very little wear around the rim. There is some wear on the cobalt flower. I’ve tried to attach several pictures, but it seems I can only attach one at a time. If so, I may have to send a separate email. Please let me know who to send it to. Thanks for any info you can give me. Kathy Bruce

Brushware Umbrella Stand
Question:
Hi, I have either a umbrella stand or sand jar. It is 16" tall and 13" wide. It’s brushware with two deer in a forest scene with a pinecone motif around the top. It’s in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. Can you give me a little history about the piece and what the approximate value is? Thanks! Keith Wilson Four Seasons Gallery
Answer: Hi Keith
this is a #107, it’s part of the Brushed Ware line, circa 1930. It was produced for several years. If it’s marked, great! But it could have been made by someone else as well. RRP out of Ohio made it too. It’s very difficult to tell the difference unless you know Red Wing’s glazes. The inside is the more tell tale when it comes to the glazes. Looks to have nice detail. Marked it is worth around 500+, unmarked half that. thanks, steve n rose
