Dear Al,
   I found a piece coming up for auction and I was curious on the value and if this is for sure RW.  It is a 1 gallon advertising crock.  There are no issues with the crock other than some light flaking on the bottom.  It has a bar handled 1 gallon pedal lid with it.  The crock says line 1  Eureka Bazaar Co.  Line 2 “WHERE CASH IS KING”  Line 3 Eureka S.D.  The wording has a solid square stamp around all of the wording.

Hello Al
I picked up a 10 Gallon Crock and would like to know when it was made and what the markings are and value.  I am including pictures of it.  No cracks although it does have a small chip on the handle, which I also am sending a picture of that. I do know that it is a salt glaze and has a dark brown glaze on the inside.  Any help identifying this would be greatly appreciated.

Mike, your 10 gallon salt glazed crock was produced between 1867 & 1895.  The decoration is called lazy 8 target which is the most common decoration. Also, a number of other potteries used this decoration.   I am not sure if your crock is Red Wing, Western or Ohio as I cannot see the rim.   Either way, the value will be the same if it is any of the other potteries.  Value as I see it is between $300 & $350.  Nice piece.  Al Kohlman

  I picked up this 1/2 gallon Klondike advertising chicken waterer this weekend at auction.  There is no base but the bell is in almost perfect condition with oval in the back.  No chips, cracks, etc…  Can you give me an approx. value on this?

Colton, your Red Wing two gallon crocks have a value between $40 & $60 each.  The more and larger the decoration, the higher the value.  Your 8 gallon Ice Water is around $800.  If the printing were darker and stencilling more complete the value would have been higher.  Al Kohlman

Question:

Al, I keep finding these Red Wing stoneware pieces not in the books. The 3 gallon zinc is marked only on the neck in grey. There is a partial Red Wing mark stamped into the bottom… It looks like a “R.W.8” as shown in the DePasquale, Et Al white book. The crock is in good shape with a small chip on the shoulder. History/value?

Chuck, this is an early Red Wing shoulder jug which was produced just after 1917.  The value is quite low due to no advertising or decorations.  Value $35 to $45.  Al Kohlman

   Was looking for a market value on some nice pieces that I’ve come across and am interested for my collection.  I apologize I dont have pics so I will do my best in describing.
 
1) 5 gallon Waconda Water shoulder jug.  There are a couple of minor bottom rim chips.  4 1/2 in wing on the top, Waconda logo in the center, red wing oval on the bottom.
2) 12 gallon Minnesota stoneware leaf crock.  All hand design, 12 in top, cat wiskers in middle, then leaf on the bottom.  Color is very good.  Albany interior.  Mint condition.
3) 3 gallon Minnesota stoneware molded leaf churn.  Color is a little light.  Probably a fifty cent piece chip that begins on the bottom rim to the side of the churn.
4) 5 gallon Birch Leaf shoulder jug with oval.  5 on the neck. Stamping is good.  Very good condition very minor chips around bottom rim.
5) 20 gallon Minnesota stoneware leaf crock.  This is beautiful.  Color is good. 20 on top, cat whiskers in middle, Double leaf on bottom.  I don’t believe it is stamped.  Albany interior.  Darn near mint.
6) 5 gallon butteryfly crock.  Color is very good.  Crock is great minus some staining arond the bottom.
 
I realize this is tough without pics or even better, seeing for yourself.  If you could ballpark it that would be great so I have a guideline.  I appreciate your help Al!

My friend inherited this item, and I’m trying to help her figure out its value, as well as maybe finding a legit buyer.

1. Red Wing 8 gallon pot, perfect condition, “red wings” marking, original spigot, fountain attachment, pottery(or porcelain)sipping piece, original stand, lid with “5” marking on it, in perfect condition. Works fine, but slow leak at spigot gasket.

I have many more pictures if you’d like to see better details.

Don, the Red Wing 8 gallon water cooler without the lid is valued at around $350 with the spigot/fountain.  The 5 gallon cooler lid is valued between $300 & $350.  These values are for perfect pieces.  Al Kohlman

Question:

This butter churn is up for auction today and I was hoping Al or someone might be able to get back to me before the end of the day.  Is this a Red Wing?  What’s it value?   I’m told there are two small hairlines on the underside.  Each is about 2” in length, but they do not go thru to the inside.   And there is what they call a “scuff mark” to the lower right of the leaf.

Dear Al,
   There is a Hand Turned 5 gallon beehive with dark brown glaze with the 5 “scratched in” coming up for sale.  They are on page 151 of the Red Wing Encyclopedia at the bottom if you need a reference with my somewhat poor description.  The handle is stamped with RWSCo.  I don’t know the condition as of yet but can you give me a current value on this piece, assuming it is mint and then I can go from there.
