5 gallon red wing stoneware crock

Question:
I am looking to determine the value of a 5 gallon red wing stoneware crock which I would like to sell. The words "Red Wing Union Stoneware Company, Red Wing, Minnesota" are imprinted at the lower part of the crock. The patent date below one handle is December 21, 1915. The stoneware does have some pitting and the red color of the wing appears to be somewhat faded but the crock has no cracks or broken areas.. The handles are black and appear to be the original handles. Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Marilyn

Brown Spongeware Spittoon Follow up

Question:
Al your recent posting on the Brown Spongeware Spittoon I believe to be in error. Yes this spitton shown in the picture is a Red Wing product. It is hand turned and is most often found in blue sponging or with a brown top and white bottom. This shape appears in the price guides by Larry Peterson and his most recent Encyclopedia. The same can be said for mold seam cuspidors made by Red Wing. They are for the most part found in blue sponge but occasionally show up in brown sponging as well. Steve L.

2 gallon Red Wing Churn

Question:
I have a #2 Red Wing water cooler and was wondering if you believe it has been repaired or not. I was told it has never been, but can see a seam on the side, seems to go on the bottom, and perhaps continue onto the other side. Inside the crock I can feel a seam too, however that seem doesn’t match up with the one on the outside. Thanks so much for you help. Sarah

5 gallon small wing coller with bakelite spigot

Question:
I am considering purchasing a world war 2 era red wing water cooler (5 gallon, small wing) in good condition (samll chip on lid – good colors). The dealer advises me that the plastic (bakelite) spigot is original – because of wartime restrictions on use of chromed metal. Is this correct, and what is the value of such a piece? Bruce
