12 gallon salt glaze leaf crock with a crack

Question:
I have a twelve gallon crock with what looks to be a handwritten leaf and the number 12 on it. The inside looks like its black with some brown it. It does have a hairline crack that starts at the top and goes half way down the crock through the writing and stops right after the leaf. Could the crack be fixed, if so, what would the cost be? What is the value with the crack? Jay

Answer: Jay, you have a nice looking 12 gallon salt glazed leaf crock. With the crack the value will be between $300 & $350. You can have the crack repaired, but the crock will always be consider repaired and not perfect and therefore the value would not go up very much. Maybe $50 or so. If it is a family heirloom and you would like to have it look as perfect as possible, them by all means have it repaired. To try and raise the value for resale, then it is not worth the cost which can ranger from $200 to even more for a repair. Hope this answers your question. Al Kohlman
