Question:
I have a jug that I got from my Grandparents and was curious as to the history and value of the piece. It is a about 6 3/4 inches tall. Brown glazing and the bottom has the raised, stamped imprint ‘Minnasota Stoneware co redwing minn’ all in capital letters. What can you tell me?
Answer: You have a Minnesota Stoneware Company wax sealer. These were the very early canning jars before our glass canning jars of today. Production dates for these wax sealers was anywhere from the late 1860’s to early 1890’s. There was a lid that went with these jars. When the jar was filled with the item to be canned, the lid was placed on the jar and then sealed with hot wax. Value is between $50 & $60. Al Kohlman
