Self Draining Jar

Question:
Can you tell me what this Redwing piece is? It is 18" tall with a 15" dia. It has no wing, only the blue oval( 2" ). It has no cracks or chips. There are no handles. There is a porous stone piece cast in the bottom of the cone. Approx. value? Thank-you, Brian.

Answer: Brian, you have a Red Wing self draining jar. These were used in chemical plants and large dairies. They would normally sit in some type of metal stand. Because they are so large and need a stand or another crock to sit on, they end up taking quite a bit of room to display. For this reason, many collectors shy away from them which brings the value down on these self draining jars. Value around $150. Al Kohlman
