Red Wing Crock with bung hole

Question:
THANK YOU . I HAVE THIS PIECE OF RED WING POTTERY, I GUESS IT WOULD BE CONSIDERED A CROCK. THIS 20 GAL CROCK MEASURE 20.25" TALL, OUTSIZE DIA. MEASURE 19.75", AND INSIDE DIA. MEASURES 16.25". 17.50" FROM THE BOTTOM IS A 1" FACTORY HOLE AT THE 3 OCLOCK POSITION FROM THE RED WING STAMP IN THE FRONT. THIS HOLE HAS A VINTAGE PIECE OF WOOD PLUG INSIDE, ANOTHER HOLE IS IN THE FRONT BOTTOM 2.25" FROM THE BOTTOM. YOU CAN SEE IN MY PICTURES. PLEASE IF YOU COULD GIVE SOME IMFO ON THIS CROCK IT’S USE AND MAYBE A BALL PARK VALUE. PS THERE IS NO OVAL STAMP BELOW THE WING. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. MARK S.

Answer: Mark, many of these crocks were ordered by dairies and chemical companies in the early teens. You see them around but because they were used for industry, there wasn’t all that many manufactured. The price range for these crocks are about the same as a standard 20 gallon Red Wing crock of this time period. Without the handles I would guess the red wing is 6 inches. Six inch wings carry a higher value than the 4 1/2" wing, Value would be $250 to $300 if in mint condition with a sharp 6" wing and dark printed 20. Al Kohlman
