Question:
While cleaning out a relative’s home, we ran across a complete set of Capistrano service for four: plates, cup, saucers. Also, extra pieces for the same pattern: 4 small plates, a small pitcher, and a salt and pepper set. The dishes are still in the original box, and we are quite certain that they have never been used. We are interested in their approximate value, and any information that you can provide for us would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Marilyn Snider P.S. We are not interested in selling, as we plan to pass the dishes on to our recently married grandson and wife. Marilyn
Answer: The original Red Wing shipping carton adds value to your Capistrano collection so be sure to retain it. If it is in decent condition it is worth $25 to $50, depending on design of the box and whether there are any interesting marks on the box.
Values for the dishes, assuming mint condition:
Dinner plate: $10-15
Cup & saucer: $10-12
Small plate: $5-10
Salt & Pepper: $15-25
Small pitcher: $10-15 (most like this is a creamer or a gravy boat).
