Answer: Your Red Wing piece is either a Preserve or Snuff Jar (sorry, it is not a cookie jar). According the Red Wing Stoneware book, both the Snuff & Preserve jar were very similar in shape and came with stone covers. Snuff jars were advertised in 1/2 to 20 lb sizes and Preserve jars were advertised in 1/4 to 2 gallon sizes with larger sizes made to order. Values depend on the size of the jar (jar must be mint and bottom signed). The larger the jar the greater the value. 4 gallon $300 to $350, 2 gallon $150 to $175 & 1 gallon $50 to &75. Al Kohlman |
