A third-generation family business, Red Wing Pottery began over 140 years ago and is still in operation today. We produce pottery and operate the Red Wing Pottery Salesroom, a large pottery, dinnerware and gift store on the banks of the Mississippi River in beautiful Red Wing, Minnesota. Our other shops include the Gift Gallery, Fiacre's Garden Shop, Loons and Ladyslippers, an Old Fashioned Candy Shop, and the Smokey Row Cafe - home to the Jenny Lind Bakery.

Our pottery studio is in operation seven days a week. Visitors can interact with our potters as they wheel-throw and decorate our pottery. All of our pots are hand-turned by skilled production potters, giving visitors an opportunity to experience how pottery was made before our factories were industrialized in the 20th century.

We make two glaze styles of pottery today.
Our first style is salt-glazed stoneware, which refers to the process by which the glaze is applied to the pots by throwing salt into the kiln when it reaches its maximum temperature of 2,400 degrees Fahrenheit. The finished pots have a grey or tan clay body with a cobalt blue decoration. Red Wing's first potters produced only salt-glaze pots in the late 1800s, and are the most valued by red wing pottery collectors. The second style of pottery is our Bristol glaze ware. This is a more uniform smooth glaze and replicates the pots made in Red Wing in the early 1900s.

All of our pots are stamped with our Red Wing pottery logo, the date, and the potter's mark. These stamps add to our line's collectible value. Red Wing Pottery is historic, aesthetic and functional, pleasing to both the hand and the eye.
